MADISON, GA - A book signing will be held on Sunday, February 18, 2024 to celebrate two authors with ties to the community of Apalachee. Both authors will be in attendance and have their books for sale at the event. They will also sign books that have been previously purchased by attendees.
Sara Lynn Holbert has authored two books of poetry and devotionals: In God’s Morning and Picnics, Porches, and Prayers. With Jean Triplett, she co-authored Cameos and Canopies. A native of Apalachee, she continues to reside in the community with her husband, Leonard. After an influential career as a middle grades classroom teacher, Holbert moved into an administrative role. She retired in 2018 after serving as the Assistant Superintendent of Social Circle City Schools from 2012-2018. Sara Lynn is presently working toward her PhD in Strategic Leadership and continues to educate via Studio WISE, a writing consulting and tour service located in Madison, Georgia. She and Leonard are parents of two adult children, and she is blessed to be “Grammar” to two grandsons.
Suzanne Hendricks recently published her debut fiction novel, Garden of Ash. Raised in Apalachee, she graduated from Morgan County High School in 1988. Hendricks received her Bachelor’s of Education from the University of Georgia, then completed her Master’s Degree in Education Leadership from Valdosta State University. As a mathematics educator, Hendricks has taught middle and high school students in Social Circle City Schools, Brantley as well as Laurens County school systems. Suzanne is currently teaching Algebra at Swainsboro High School in the Emanuel County School District. Though trained in the analytical methods of mathematics, she has always enjoyed creative expression, whether through music or writing. With the encouragement of her husband Eric and three adult children, along with her social media followers, Suzanne made the decision to focus her energies on writing a fantasy fiction novel. Garden of Ash is available on her website www.suzanneshendricks.com as a print book or e-book.
The two authors have more in common than their publishing endeavors. Both Hendricks and Holbert were taught piano by the late Mrs. Suzanne Shockley, and both have served as the pianist at Apalachee United Methodist Church. Hendricks and Holbert also both worked with Social Circle Schools, with Holbert serving as Assistant Superintendent and Hendricks serving as a middle school math teacher. Sara Lynn was Suzanne’s 6th grade teacher when Sara Lynn was Miss Pritchett.
The book signing will take place at the Historic Madison Train Depot. Located at 287 West Jefferson Street in Madison, the building currently houses Shockley Investment Company. Light refreshments will be served.
