About the Author

Suzanne Hendricks

Suzanne Hendricks is a high school mathematics teacher who has
developed a strong voice during her decades in the classroom. She’s
taught all over the state of Georgia during her career, but it was her
upbringing in Morgan County that molded the creative writer she is
today. Suzanne has written short stories and essays about her
experiences growing up during the “Generation X” era that have
been featured in local newspapers, social media and family
cookbooks.

At heart, she’s a country girl. Suzanne has taken her memories of
laboring in her family’s summer vegetable garden, swimming in a
slow moving creek, sleeping under multiple blankets in an unheated
home, swatting mosquitoes while stargazing, and transformed them
into her debut novel, Garden of Ash.

Though trained at the University of Georgia and Valdosta State
University to be an educator, Suzanne believes there is magic all around. As character Lirah Wesley shares with her son, Finn, “Magic is just science we don’t understand yet.” It is this gift of awe of our mutual, ever-changing, world that drove Suzanne to write Garden of Ash.

Gen X country life stories with a bit of magical history, mixed with
heartache and loss, spread across time and space with love and light
- that’s Garden of Ash. It’s also a consummate description of the
fantasy fiction author, Suzanne Hendricks of Soperton, Georgia.
