February 27, 2024 - Nahunta, GA

A former Brantley County educator will be hosting a book signing at the Brantley County Library on Thursday, March 7, 2024 to celebrate the release of her debut fiction novel, Garden of Ash. The book signing will take place from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M.

Suzanne Hendricks was born and raised in Madison, Georgia. She graduated from Morgan County High School in 1988. Hendricks received her Bachelor’s of Education from the University of Georgia, then completed her Master’s Degree in Education Leadership from Valdosta State University while teaching in the Brantley County School System. As a mathematics educator, Hendricks has taught middle and high school students in Social Circle City Schools, Brantley as well as Laurens County school systems. Suzanne is currently teaching Algebra I at Swainsboro High School in the Emanuel County School District.

In the development of her novel, Hendricks uses several references to Brantley County locations and the themes of southern living. Her maternal grandparents, Horace and Lorraine Jacobs, called the community of Caney Bay their home. Many of her family members still live on or near the family farm. On the opposite side of the Satilla River, she met her husband, Eric, while attending church at King Memorial Baptist. Mary Cross Hendricks, Eric's mother, continues to live in Atkinson. Frequent visits to Brantley County in her life inspired her to incorporate the location into her fiction novel.

Asher Ganit, the protagonist of Hendricks’ novel, hails from a fictional small town on the fringes of the Okefenokee Swamp called Tiger Bay. Hendricks used her memories of Nahunta as a model for the Ganit family's home place.

Though trained in the analytical methods of mathematics, Hendricks has always enjoyed creative expression, whether through music or writing. With the encouragement of her husband and three adult children, along with her social media followers, Suzanne made the decision to focus her energies on writing a fantasy fiction novel. Garden of Ash is available on her website www.suzanneshendricks.com as a print book or e-book.

Copies of Garden of Ash will be for sale at the event. Hendricks invites readers who have purchased her book to bring their copy to be signed by the author.
